netbook  with win 7 starter won't find printer
I just purchased a gateway netbook with windows 7 starter and I am unable to connect to my network printer. My desktop is running xp sp3 and so is my laptop with no problems printing on my hp c4480. I have all machines on the same work group name, so I am wondering what is going on.

Instead of installing a network printer try to install as a local printer and then create a tcp/ip port and use the server machines ip address. Hope it helps.http://www.computerstar.ca/

vinster65,HP has Win 7 full featured software and drivers here that should be installed on the netbook prior to adding the networked/shared printer. This is actually a shared printer connected to another host computer on your network? Correct?

Hi, Can the Windows 7 machine access the Desktop successfully? At this stage, I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Write down the Desktop computer name. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\XP computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the Windows XP computer? If so, please add the network printer on Windows 7 machine again. Otherwise, please proceed to the following steps. 2. Temporarily turn off firewall on each machine. 3. Assure the following services are started on each machine: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 4. Ping the Windows XP machine from Windows XP machine for a test.
